Do you remember the trip to Varanasi the other day? This time I will take you to Kerala’s backwaters. If you think Varanasi is too crazy for you, then Kerala would be a great destination. Kerala is an Indian state in South India on the Malabar Coast, to the South of Goa. Kerala seems to me like it could belong in Southeast Asia, instead of the India we used to hear.
For many travelers, Kerala backwaters is the most serene and relaxing experience ever. Backwaters in Kerala is a network of 1500 km of canals both man-made and natural. Every year during the monsoon season, the paddy fields with lagoon, lake and rivers extends to the sea, meanwhile the high water in the river rushes into the sea as well. You can never tell if the water is from the sea of from the river because they all merge and join together, at the same time, they are all separating. I really enjoyed the ride along the deep green stagnant water.
Continue reading [Incredible India] #3 – Travel with me to Kerala backwaters [不可思议的印度] 在喀拉拉邦的回水泛舟体验
Today I bring you to one of the coolest market in the world – Jemaa el-Fnaa in Marrakech. It’s one of the craziest places in the world. There’re lots going on, vendors, food stall holders, entertainers, monkeys, story tellers, dancers. I somehow got the illusion that some kinds of Arabian 1001 night stories are going to happen here.

I bring you today to Jardin Majorelle, a beautiful garden with an impressive shade of blue. The garden is a bit outside the busy center of Marrakech. It’s like a oasis in the pink city of Marrakech. Here you can see so many different colors, all of high saturation. Especially this delightful shade of blue, which makes me feel tranquil immediately. Designer YSL bought this garden and after he passed away it is now open to public. They said this kind blue is YSL blue, I love the color even though I’m not that familiar with YSL’s fashion.

I went to Kinderdijk in the Nederlands the other day when my friend from China came to visit. It’s a village close to Rotterdam. There are many lovely windmills in the area. I live in Flanders for a couple of years already, but strangely I haven’t explored this famous windmill village. Thanks to my friend’s visit, I finally got the chance to visit this place. It was actually easy for us to get there. First we took a train to Dordrecht from Belgium, then a direct bus to Kinderdijk. I guess sometimes we are lazy to explore the nearby area, thinking it’s nothing special but actually it can be as nice as more remote places.
We had a great day there. First we took a boat tour around the area and got to see many details of the classical windmills. The weather was great. We really enjoyed the boat tour, the personnel on the boat was super friendly, he was surprised that I can speak Dutch. He told me that they worked as volunteers here and told us if we want, can stay in the boat doing a few more circles around the area for free.
Continue reading Trip to Kinderdijk Windmill village in the Nederlands 荷兰小孩堤坝风车村之旅
