Visiting Dazaifu Tenman-gū in Kimono

Dazaifu Tenmangu is a Shinto shrine in Dazaifu-shi, near Fukuoka. It is a very popular spot for the Japanese new year’s hatsumōde, meaning when family gather together going to the temple to pray for the first time of the year. I remember it was the first Monday of the year.

You can rent a Furisode kimono or other types of kimono nearby and visit Dazaifu in kimono. For the same style of kimono, it’s much cheaper to rent in Kyushu instead of Kyoto. It makes sense I guess.

I really loved my kimono, I did the hair myself because I didn’t make reservation for hairstyle.

From Daizaifu train to Dazaifu Tenmangu, there is a road called Omotesando where you can find all kinds of tourist souvenirs and snacks.

It was really busy, most of the visitors are locals, but I also saw many Chinese tourists in group

Touch this bull, it brings good luck!

The most famous snack is the plum cake, don’t forget to try when you are in Dazaifu.
